T-9 Days

Big secret.  Don’t tell anyone:

I haven’t started packing yet.

I know, I know. I’m going away for three months and I leave in 9 days and I haven’t even really decided which suitcases I’m taking.  I’m a bad girl.

I don’t know quite how to say this without sounding like an idiot but… I guess I was waiting for inspiration.  Waiting to feel like the time was right.  And the truth is that the clothing I want to bring is the clothing I’m still wearing so I need to get closer to the date and do some laundry before I really start…but.

Last night I finally felt inspired.  I was sitting in Rockwood Music Hall listening to a band I love and suddenly I had a flash of brilliance, an outfit.  A perfectly professional yet relaxed outfit for pulling up to a theater in the bus and puttin’ on a show.

So today I feel ready to tackle at least the long sleeves.  And that means picking a suitcase.  So we’ll see how this goes.

Things that excite me about going on tour

Meeting new people!

Beautiful music

Not having to buy furniture

Not having to cook meals

Not having to hang pictures or repair shelves

Sleeping in fresh sheets every night without ever having to wash them.

Getting paid to see the country

Sending Corinna postcards

No cats

Things that don’t excite me about going on tour

Not being able to cook for myself

Not being able to go out and see a show that I haven’t seen before

I’m going to hum while listening to my headphones and everyone is going to hate me.

Not having access to sewing machines and power tools

Constantly having cold toes on the bus and not knowing anyone well enough to use as a warmer.

Bad pizza and bagels

 

On the bright side tour busses and hotels usually don’t have moths.

Baby Elize Hits The Road!

Hello all,

If you’re reading this then you’re probably one of the 20 people who I’ve spoken to about my upcoming employment and who responded with ‘Wow!  You should start a blog!’

If you aren’t one of those people then please go look at something more interesting.  I hear Youtube.com has some great videos of cats on roombas.

If you are interested in me/my work/what America looks like from inside a tour bus then please remind me every once in a while (food, money, kisses, text messages, pickle pins) and I’ll try to post more frequently.
